This is our second year in a row to take advantage of the kids' Spring Break by having a family vacation. We decided to stay in Washington and visit some new sites. We chose to stop at Grand Coulee Dam on the drive out. It's an impressive dam, and we enjoyed the little visitors center. Did you know "...there is enough concrete in the Grand Coulee Dam to build a 60 foot wide highway four inches thick, from Los Angeles to New York City!" Plus its base and height exceeds the great pyramid of Giza.
On the return drive we stopped off the road and slid down sand dunes with our winter discs! We were huffing and puffing after the climb up. Craig helped Gavin, and I had Breck in a baby pack. The view was great at the top, and we all had fun sliding down. We enjoyed seeing the piles of sand we dumped out of our shoes before loading up in the van.
Our next big adventure was to visit the San Juan islands. We hear a lot about these from the locals. It was everyone's first experience on a ferry. We only stopped at one spot-a town called Friday Harbor. It's such a beautiful area. It made me think a little of Kauai because of the rural landscape overlooking the ocean and relaxing feel to the town. It made Craig think of the movie Wickerman with Nicholas Cage due to its isolated nature. While driving around the island Craig and I saw an eagle sitting in the road, and a fox crossing the road headed down to the water. We tried to share this with the boys, but their eyes were glued to a movie they were watching. We found an area that had a path leading to a lighthouse and a spot to look for whales. Unfortunately we didn't see any. However, we did see a storm coming across the ocean from B.C.
It made the trip even better because we got to stay with Chris & Gina and their boys! We sure made their house louder and busier adding four more boys to the mix. It was fun to see all the kids play and have fun with their cousins! They got to play with toys, watch movies, go to the park, and even chase ducks out of the yard. What a treat to be so close to them.

Cute pictures. San Juan Islands look beautiful. I like the ones of the boys in the trees. Classic. I loved the comment about the boys watching their movie, instead of nature. Sounds like my kids.I made similar comments on our trip.
Looks like you guys had so much fun. We're going to be in western Washington in August; looking at your pictures makes me excited for our trip.
