Wizard of Oz

We are so proud of Hudson and Rylan. This year they chose to participate in the Wizard of Oz school play. The director is a lady who has been putting on this school play for two elementary schools since 1995! Each school performs it every other year. On average there are about 130 kids that participate in the play. They have it set up so each child has a part in the first and second act of the play. The costumes and props get reused every year. To pull the performance off it requires MANY hours of help from parents. The kids are amazing in their dedication too. They practice for two month after school. Hudson and Rylan did a great job balancing it between their homework and other activities.

Hudson was a member of Emerald city and one of the Winkie Generals. It was fun to watch him sing the Emerald city songs. His face was so animated. All the adults helping with the play said Hudson was amazing as a Winkie general. He was in charge of a line of other kids ranging from 1st graders to 4th. He had to walk them in and out of the auditorium and on the stage three times. He had to know where he was going and when. He took his responsibility very seriously.

Rylan was a munchkin and flying monkey. I laughed during the munchkins scene when they got to giggle at Dorthy. Rylan knew where he had to stand and his choreography of that part. Watching him as a flying monkey was my favorite! Their makeup and costumes made them look so cute. The other moms and I were overwhelmed with how to do their makeup at the beginning. Each night we got more confident and faster at putting it on. Rylan liked being a monkey, but commented on the fact that they didn't get to do much in the play. I would have to agree. If he decides to do the play again it will be interesting to see what part he gets.
